Country
girl Fereshteh and city girl Roya, schoolmates at Tehran University
in the early '80s, become friends when the former tutors the
latter to pay her way through architecture school. Their friendship
and their innocent fun are clouded only by the presence of
a young man who stalks the pretty Fereshteh demanding that
she marry him. Fereshteh brushes him off and the two girls
feel strong enough to disregard his advances, until one day
the stalker throws a bottle of acid at Fereshteh's cousin,
mistaking him for her boyfriend. Blaming her for bringing
disgrace onto the family, Fereshteh's father forces her to
return home from university, which, anyway, is shut down in
the social turmoil following the Islamic revolution. But Fereshteh's
troubles aren't over. The stalker follows her to her remote
hometown and provokes a car accident for which Fereshteh is
jailed. Family pressure once again decides Fereshteh's destiny,
forcing her into a marriage with a man she doesn't love. Her
friend Roya, meanwhile, is living precisely the sort of life
that Fereshteh aspires to. |

Khosro
is sent from the president's office on a fact facing mission
to shiraz.
His mission is to hear the complaints of a female political
prisoner, who is to be executed. Khosro's wife Fereshteh,
being of the same generation as the woman in Shiraz decides
to do something. In order to help her, she writes her own
account of the revolution which her husband has no knowledge
of. Khosro, in his hotel room in Shiraz, begins to read his
wife's memories the night before he is to see the prisoner.

in her work, but faces problems in her private life. She is
divorced and thinking about starting a new relationship. But
her teenage son Mani regards himself as the man about the
house. This results in a covert war of nerves between mother
and son. In the meantime Frough's latest commission is to
make a documentary on "the ideal mother". She serrounds herself
with videotapes on which women talk about the social problems
they experience, such as the painful consequences of the war
with Iraq. The differences with Frough's feelings become painfully
apparent. |
